Northeastern ITS continues to roll out new security measures to better protect you and your information. One of our primary focuses over the past year has been to better secure your email and stop all of those pesky phish from spamming your inbox.

DUO, our multi-factor authentication service, has already been integrated with a host of Northeastern services, including the VPN and server logins. Now, we are rolling this service out to cover Office 365 accounts (O365), including the Outlook Web Application (OWA) and your Outlook desktop client, for all of our Faculty and Staff.

ITS will also begin work to integrate DUO with our Single Sign-On (SSO) platform in the coming months, securing the daily Northeastern activity and information, including myNortheastern, for our entire university community.

What Is DUO?

DUO is multi-factor authentication service used as an added layer of security for your Northeastern accounts and information. DUO requires users to authenticate their identity through a separate method, typically through the DUO mobile application, text message or phone call, in order to gain access to their accounts.

This additional security measure will significantly reduce the risk and potential impact of compromised accounts, as access will require a unique personal device or PIN. ITS has already added DUO for access to certain university services and will continue to add to other critical Northeastern services in the future.

Using DUO is fast and easy, and it adds a second layer of security to all your Northeastern accounts and information. You can access this increased security by enrolling in Northeastern’s Multi-Factor Authentication program, DUO. Go to the URL for enrollment at: mfareg.northeastern.edu.
