Individuals who have completed graduation requirements within the last calendar year are considered “recent alumni” in certain ITS-related systems. These individuals maintain access to certain university accounts and systems for one year. To be sure you are able to access all the alumni benefits, you should get your Alumni Husky Card. NOTE: The completion of graduation requirements is determined by the Registrar’s Office (i.e. when did you pass all of your classes). This is not the same thing as attending the Commencement ceremony.
Alumni who graduated in 2013 or later retain their email accounts indefinitely.
Alumni retain access to their HuskyMail account and G-apps. If you do not want to keep your email address and Google Drive account, you may request to remove the service by calling the ITS Service Desk at 617.373.4357 (xHELP).
First, it is important to understand the difference between the myNortheastern portal and your myNortheastern username and password:
myNortheastern portal (and links) – the online portal for the Northeastern community – is a central resource for faculty, students, staff, and parents. Your myNortheastern username and password provide access to key university services tailored to your role(s) at Northeastern. When you are an active student taking classes or on co-op, certain links and systems are available based on that role.
Upon completion of graduation requirements, your account will transition to a recent alumni status. While you will see the same links within the myNortheastern portal, only the relevant aspects of the portal and linked systems related to your new role as an alum will work. For example – LinkedIn Learning is only available to active students, faculty and staff. Once you have met the graduation requirements, you will no longer have access to LinkedIn Learning.
You will be able to use your myNortheastern username and password to access the myNortheastern portal for one calendar year following the completion of graduation requirements. Within that one year time frame you will also retain access to select systems.
NOTE: Simply having a myNortheastern username and password does not guarantee you access to all systems, especially those with role-based access (e.g. active student status). While you may have a myNortheastern username and password, your access to resources will be different from that of an active student.
myNortheastern username and password – Your username and password is used for authentication purposes on the myNortheastern portal and other systems. One calendar year following the completion of graduation requirements, your myNortheastern account will be transitioned to full Alumni status. At this time you will lose access to all remaining student systems that use your myNortheastern username and password for authentication, including NUwave and the ability to log onto ITS-Managed computer labs. There are a few computers on the Library’s second floor designated as public access computers which are available to those who no longer have a HuskyCard. You will receive an email notice from ITS about 14 days before your account is transitioned to alumni status.
Following this transition, you will only have access to alumni-focused services, some of which use your myNortheastern username and password for authentication.
- If you met the graduation requirements at the end of April 2016 (Finals), your student myNortheastern username and password will transition to alumni status in April 2017.
- If you met the graduation requirements at the end of December 2015 (Finals),your student myNortheastern username and password will transition to alumni status in December 2016.
Your Office 365 username and the associated account expires one year following the completion of graduation requirements. At this time, you will no longer have access to files stored in OneDrive for Business and any Office 365 software you have downloaded will go into read-only mode.
Northeastern Printing Plan
Alumni who have obtained an Alumni HuskyCard, available free of charge from HuskyCard Services in 4 Speare Commons, will retain any print money remaining on their student HuskyCards as print money is transferred to the Alumni card within 2 hours. The annual printing credit on your HuskyCard is refreshed just prior to the start of the Fall term, so any remaining balance will disappear at this time. NOTE: Printing is deactivated for all CPS students currently not enrolled in classes.
- If you met the graduation requirements at the end of April 2016 (Finals), your printing credit will disappear in late August/early September 2016.
- If you met the graduation requirements at the end of December 2015 (Finals), your printing credit will disappear in late August/early September 2016.
Offered by the Office of Alumni Relations, Husky Nation is Northeastern University’s online community for alumni. This includes full access to the alumni directory, class notes, alumni classifieds and your email forwarding account. NUwave-guest Wireless Access
One year after you have met the graduation requirements, your myNortheastern username and password will transition to an alumni account, and you will no longer be able to access NUwave. At this time you will need to start using NUwave-guest if you are on campus.
NUwave-guest, the open-access (not secured) wireless network, is available in administrative and classroom buildings, as well as the libraries. NUwave-guest allows alumni and other visitors to use NUwave-guest while on campus. With NUwave-guest you will have limited Internet access to most browser-based applications, email and your own VPN. To access NUwave-guest you will need to register through a guest wireless portal page, which you will be directed to when you connect to NUwave-guest.

Can alumni open a new myNortheastern account?
While alumni can open a new myNortheastern account, it will not give you access to the myNortheastern portal. A new account can be claimed here.
