2-Factor Authentication, or 2FA, is an added layer of security for your Northeastern accounts and information. 2FA requires users to authenticate their identity through a separate method, typically through the Duo mobile application, text message or by phone call, in order to gain access to their accounts.
NOTE: To make the enrollment process simpler, register for DUO using the device you plan to use to receive the DUO login request.
To register your mobile device use a browser to go to the 2-factor authentication registration page and log in with your myNortheastern username and password.
You will see the start-up screen. Click Start setup.
During this process you will be asked to select a device. This device is the one where you will be contacted with authentication requests.
ITS recommends you install Duo Mobile on your device. It is fast and easy, works in any country, and doesn’t require cell service. Without the Duo Mobile app, you can still log in using a phone call or text message.
Select your country and type in the phone number of the device you will use to receive messages. Click Continue.
Choose the device operating system and click Continue.
To install the app, follow the platform-specific instructions.
After installing the app, return to the enrollment window and click “I have Duo Mobile installed.”
You must then activate the app to link it to your account and use it for authentication.
NOTE: If you used the same device to register for DUO that you will use to get the login information from DUO, you may skip the scanning step below and skip to the notification selection step.
On iPhone, Android, and Windows Phone activate Duo Mobile by scanning the barcode with the app’s built-in barcode scanner. Follow the platform specific instructions for your device. If you have scanned the code successfully, you will be able to click Continue or Add Account.
Next you will need to choose how you would like to be notified. If this is the device you’ll use most often with Duo then you may want to enable automatic push requests by changing the When I log in: option and changing the setting from “Ask me to choose an authentication method” to “Automatically send this device a Duo Push” or “Automatically call this device” and click Save.
Once completed, test it by clicking “Send Me a Push”. When you receive the Duo login request at your phone, tap Approve.
When you perform the DUO Launch mobile for the first time, you will see a welcome screen with a pop-up.
YOU MUST SELECT ALLOW for the system to notify you so you can access the application requiring 2-factor authentication. DO NOT SELECT DON’T ALLOW. If you select that, you will need to re-enable DUO.
