As Northeastern University continues to expand globally and become more mobile-centric, ITS is working on solutions to help keep you, your information and our university network safe and secure worldwide.
We have partnered with IBM’s Mobile Device Management (MDM) team to provide Northeastern employees with a simple, secure solution to your mobile security concerns. IBM’s MDM platform, MaaS360, will be rolled out to university faculty and staff, department by department, in the coming months in order to better protect your university email accounts.
Some university employees are already a part of our pilot program with MaaS360 to ensure the MDM works effectively and appropriately secures your account.
Will This Impact Me?
If you use a Northeastern-issued (“Corporate”) mobile device (cell phone or tablet), you will be required to enroll in the MDM and download the MaaS360 app in order to access your university email on your mobile device. You will still be able to use your native email client or the Outlook application.
If you own a personal (“Employee”) mobile device, you will not be required to enroll with MaaS360. However, if you wish to access Northeastern email on your personal device, you will be required to enroll in MaaS360.
The MDM will also come with an “App Catalog,” which will include a list of suggested applications to download on your device. Once enrolled, the app catalog will also automatically install the following apps on your device:
- Duo (MFA)
- Global Protect (VPN)
Take a look at what the app will look like on your phone in the image below:
