Faculty and staff can use Microsoft Lync or Skype for Business on and off campus for a range of collaboration activities, including instant messaging, presence information, AV/Web conferencing, whiteboarding, screen sharing, application sharing and file transfers. Lync integrates with other Microsoft applications, such as Outlook and SharePoint.


Microsoft Lync is available to all faculty and staff. It is included on all Northeastern-configured Windows machines. Skype for Business is available for Windows 32-bit and 64-bit systems through the myNortheastern portal under Software Downloads. For students Skype for Business is available as part of the Microsoft Student Advantage program utilizing Office 365.

Northeastern-configured Macs can install Lync 2011 through Self-Service. Additionally it is available through the myNortheastern portal under Software Downloads.
