Software Updates for Summer 2018

Our new virtual application service, Appcloud, and the latest version of the Application Distribution method for Northeastern-managed Windows computers, AppV 5.1, are now available.

The current standard supported operating systems are Windows 10 and Mac OS X Sierra with Microsoft Office 2016.

Reminders: Be sure to update your Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) software and Virtual Print Client. SEP is available in Software Downloads on myNortheastern, from the ITS Service Desk and on Northeastern-managed faculty/staff computers. The Virtual Print Client, used to send your files to the Swipe-to-Print stations all over campus, can be found in Software Downloads on myNortheastern.

IBM SPSS & Amos – New version available

IBM SPSS Statistics & Amos is a comprehensive set of data and predictive analytics tools. In addition to statistical analysis, data management and data documentation are features of this software.

Solidworks – Education Edition

Solidworks is a solid modeling computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided engineering (CAE) computer program students can use to learn universal design and engineering skills.

Zoom Text – access on Appcloud

ZoomText Magnifier/Reader is a fully-integrated magnification and reading program tailored for low-vision users.

Gaussian 16 & GaussView 6 – on Windows

These Gaussian software programs are available to all ITS-managed Windows computers, desktops, laptops and Labs Gaussian is also available through the Discovery Cluster (ITS Research Computing high performance computing (HPC) clusters) to help with any computational chemistry work for faculty, staff and student academic needs.

Gaussian 16 is the latest version of the Gaussian series of electronic structure programs, used by chemists, chemical engineers, biochemists, physicists and other scientists worldwide. Gaussian 16 provides a wide-ranging suite of the most advanced modeling capabilities available. You can use it to investigate the real-world chemical problems that interest you, in all of their complexity, even on modest computer hardware.

GaussView 6 is the latest version of a graphical interface used with Gaussian. GaussView 6 aids in the creation of Gaussian input files, enables the user to run Gaussian calculations from a graphical interface without the need for using a command-line instruction.

If you are a faculty or staff member on a managed computer and are not seeing the latest software updates in Start or Software Center on Windows, or in Applications of Self Service on Mac, you may want to consider having your computer re-imaged.
