Northeastern University is retiring the BlueJeans video conferencing service in spring 2020 to focus its support on the remaining web conferencing solutions in the university’s service portfolio. Faculty and staff should plan on transitioning to an alternative web conferencing platform by June 1, 2020.

To prepare for this transition, all BlueJeans recordings must be transferred to a storage option outside of BlueJeans to avoid data loss. In addition, new users can no longer log in to create or schedule meetings in BlueJeans.

Microsoft Teams is Northeastern’s primary conferencing and collaboration solution for the digital workplace and business operations. Additionally, Zoom, which features functionality particularly useful for digital teaching, is available to the university community.

Microsoft Teams

Teams is ideal for communicating in real-time with colleagues and other members of the Northeastern community. With the university’s Microsoft Office 365 license, faculty, students, and staff have access to create, join, record, and share meetings using the Teams desktop and mobile apps, including the ability to create call-in numbers and invite outside guests.

Using Stream, Microsoft’s video platform that seamlessly integrates with Teams and the rest of the O365 suite, managing, and sharing Teams meetings is easy.

To get started using Teams for meetings, visit Northeastern’s Teams meeting website.

Solutions for Online Teaching

For digital teaching and learning, Zoom is available for live lectures, small group discussions, office hours, and other real-time online meetings. Using Panopto lecture capture, faculty can also pre-record lectures and host videos for their courses. Both Zoom and Panopto are integrated with Northeastern’s Blackboard and Canvas learning management environments.

For more information on these tools for online teaching, visit the overview pages for Zoom and Panopto.

Other Solutions and Support

Blackboard Collaborate Ultra is currently available for teaching and learning but will be retired along with Blackboard as Northeastern transitions to the Canvas learning management system by December 2020.
