Karen McCarthy

Co-Interim Chief Information Officer 

Karen McCarthy brings over 20 years of experience managing operations and strategic initiatives into her current role as co-interim chief information officer at Northeastern University. She’s been at Northeastern University in the Office of the CIO since 2015, as a member of the ITS Leadership Team working to create and deliver services that enhance learning spaces, student experiences, and operational excellence for the university community. As deputy CIO and associate vice president of information technology and IT operations, she oversees numerous operational and innovative functions, including IT service management, learning and collaboration space technology, IT program and project management, human resources, finance and administration, and D.Studio. Before coming to Northeastern, she held leadership positions at Orion Health and John Hancock Life Insurance Company.  

Marcus P. Robinson (he/him)

Co-Interim Chief Information Officer 

Marcus Robinson has more than 20 years of experience in private and public higher education. He’s been a member of Northeastern’s ITS Leadership Team since 2019, first as associate vice president of engagement and experience and more recently as deputy CIO. In these roles, he counsels the CIO, IT leaders, and other university stakeholders in key decisions for advancing the university’s goals, priorities, strategic direction, and mission. His portfolio at Northeastern includes web strategy and governance, IT communication, IT customer experience, and digital university solutions. He has extensive experience at other world-class institutions of higher education, including the University of Chicago, Penn State University, and the University of Dayton.    

Steve Duncan

Associate Vice President, Enterprise Platforms 

Steve Duncan has over 30 years of experience managing enterprise IT solutions and is currently Northeastern’s associate vice president for enterprise platforms. Steve has a strong background in enterprise architecture, enterprise applications management and development, data integration, and data analytics architecture. Steve’s recent focus has been in digital transformation and application modernization efforts, including building out an API strategy, event-driven architecture strategy, CRM strategy, and ERP modernization strategy. Before Northeastern, Steve held technical leadership positions at the IT Research firm Gartner and the commercial software developers Oracle and United Kronos Group. 

Harry Hoffman

Associate Vice President, Chief Technology and Security Officer  

Harry Hoffman, chief technology and security officer, oversees information security, identity and access management, cloud and data center technologies, and communications infrastructure for Northeastern. Harry started at Northeastern in 2021 after previously leading initiatives at Harvard University, MIT, the University of Pennsylvania, and the University of Auckland in New Zealand. He helps lead many higher-ed community groups including Educause’s Higher-ed Information Security Council, the Research and Education – Information Sharing and Analysis Center, the Center for Cybersecurity Operations in Research and Education, Internet2’s higher-ed efforts, and regularly participates in outside mentoring opportunities.
