Eduroam continues to be available to visitors from other universities and participating institutions who already have Eduroam credentials.

Beware of Phishing Scams Impersonating Faculty Members

Higher education institutions across the globe, including Northeastern student accounts, have been the most recent target of phishing scams. These campaigns impersonate faculty members, offer a job with minimal hours and high pay, and seek bank account information. There have also been attacks asking students to purchase gift cards in high amounts. These scams often require a sense of urgency and come from email addresses that are similar to a university account.

Northeastern has implemented monitoring and technical controls as part of its ongoing efforts to improve the university’s resilience to these types of threats, but your help is needed!

If you experience or suspect a phishing scam, forward it to phishcatcher@northeastern.edu. Check out these tips for additional ways you and your colleagues can help protect yourselves and the rest of the community from phishing scams.

New Tech Service Portal Launched

Northeastern’s Tech Service Portal, which includes the service catalog and knowledge base, has been redesigned and updated to make it even easier for members of the university community to find the IT support and tech resources they need.

Among the many enhancements streamlining the service portal experience are improved site navigation; dynamic feeds of personalized resources, including your most recently viewed articles and your favorited articles; and quick access to training, contact information, and other resources.

How Residential Life Built Communities using Yammer

Communities at Northeastern is the university’s social networking platform, powered by Microsoft’s Yammer social platform. Different from Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn, Communities requires a Northeastern University login, making it a secure space for faculty, staff, and students to connect around shared interests and in groups. Yammer is a great tool for social collaboration and interaction in open groups and communities, while Microsoft Teams is better suited for groups of people who work closely together and need to communicate, store files, chat, and meet virtually.

For those looking to engage with incoming and returning students for the upcoming academic year, here’s a study of how the Office of Housing and Residential Life has successfully used and will continue to use Yammer to build and sustain communities of students. This article includes an overview of strategies that worked (and those that didn’t) and instances when Yammer proved to be a valuable resource.

Updates to Concur User Interface

As a reminder, Concur Expense’s user interface will be updated on July 1 to ensure that your expense-reporting experience is more intuitive, integrated, and efficient. Although the layout will change, everything you need to complete your expense report will still be available. Among the new features is the ability to add and create expenses from one location, quickly fix issues, and easily discover which card charges are ready to be expensed.

For questions, reach out to Northeastern’s Payment Operations Team at ap@northeastern.edu
