Canvas End-of-Term Best Practices

Instructors, as you prepare for the end of the term, take a moment to review the Canvas Wrap-up Checklist to confirm the accuracy of course information and student access levels going forward. The checklist, which can be downloaded for quick access, provides great guidance for both wrapping up a course and ensuring a smooth setup for the next time you teach the course.

A creative way to culminate student learning in your courses is a digital poster assignment, which gives students an opportunity to summarize and share what they’ve learned.

Ready to begin preparations for your spring courses? Use the Canvas course import process—How do I import Canvas course content into another Canvas shell?—to select those items you want to import from other Canvas courses.

New Service Portal for Facilities Launched

Planning, Real Estate, and Facilities, which maintains and improves Northeastern’s facilities and grounds, has launched a new service portal for increased visibility and easier access to report an emergency or to submit a work order or service request. The portal and services are accessible from Northeastern’s service platform at service.northeastern.edu and through the Now Mobile app.

Cybersecurity Awareness Month Recap

Northeastern celebrated Cybersecurity Awareness Month in October. During Data Destruction Day, the Office of Information Security facilitated the safe, secure, and sustainable destruction of old, data-bearing devices and paper files. There were also two illuminating panel discussions with faculty from Khoury College of Computer Sciences covering questions including how to maintain online data privacy and just how much your smart speakers know about you. These sessions are available for streaming to all within the Northeastern community. For the full Data Destruction Day recap and links to the faculty session videos, visit the Cybersecurity Awareness Month wrap-up blog post.

Updates to 2FA Will Keep Your Accounts Safe and Secure

Early in the new calendar year, the university will be updating and expanding Duo two-factor authentication (2FA) to additional Northeastern services and systems. This update was rolled out to student accounts last month, significantly decreasing the number of compromised accounts and phishing emails across the Northeastern community. Expanding the update to other university services and systems will reduce the risk of your account becoming compromised and will better protect you and your data.

Prior to this change, if you’d like to review or adjust any of your Duo device settings, including adding the Duo Mobile App as a verification method, visit your Duo 2FA dashboard at 2fa.northeastern.edu. To improve compatibility and prevent security issues, update your apps to the latest version in advance of this change.
