Northeastern students, faculty, and staff now have access to powerful new Claude.ai New Claude features: interactive tools, personalization, and better collaboration features that make it easier to create interactive tools and collaborate on projects. Also, Claude can now search previous chats and incorporate them into its context. These updates focus on practical applications that can enhance academic work, research, and campus operations.

Build interactive AI apps with artifacts

Claude’s new artifacts feature allows anyone to create interactive tools through simple conversation—no coding experience required. Users can describe what they need, and Claude builds functional applications that can be used immediately and shared with others.

What you can create with Claude artifacts:

Students:

  • Turn research data CSVs into interactive charts and visualizations for presentations.
  • Convert assignment requirements into project planning tools.
  • Create study aids like interactive flashcards or quiz generators.
  • Build team collaboration tools for group projects.

Faculty:

  • Transform course materials into interactive learning experiences.
  • Create data visualization tools for research presentations.
  • Build simple survey or feedback collection tools for classes.
  • Develop interactive demonstrations for complex concepts.

Staff:

  • Convert departmental data into dashboard-style reports.
  • Create team engagement tools (like a “popcorn” standup tool for meetings).
  • Build simple calculators or decision trees for common processes.
  • Develop interactive forms for event planning or resource allocation.

Artifacts appear in the Claude sidebar, and the gallery offers pre-built examples for inspiration. You can also build working small-scale prototypes of AI-powered tools. Any artifact can be customized for specific needs and shared via a simple link—perfect for distributing tools across departments or student groups.

Artifacts within projects are only shared within members of that project, which leads to…

Collaborate better with project permissions

Claude Projects now support role-based permissions, making it easier for any team to work together while maintaining appropriate access controls.

New permission levels:

  • Private: Keep sensitive research or administrative projects confidential
  • View access: Allow team members to use project tools, see content, and add to chats without editing capabilities
  • Edit access: Enable full collaboration where team members can modify project instructions and content

Key collaboration features:

  • Bulk email invitations: Easily add multiple collaborators at once—ideal for adding entire research teams, student groups, or departmental staff. (Note that Claude doesn’t currently recognize groups such as departments or colleges. You have to add collaborators.)
  • Project visibility conversion: Transform private projects into team-wide resources when ready to share broadly
  • Centralized project dashboard: See all shared projects in one location for better organization
  • Email notifications: Automatic alerts when projects are shared ensure team members know about new collaborative opportunities

Practical applications for Northeastern:

Academic departments can create shared projects for curriculum development, with department heads having edit access and instructors having view access to maintain consistency while allowing input.

Research teams can establish collaborative spaces where principal investigators maintain edit control while research assistants and graduate students have appropriate access levels for their contributions.

Administrative units can develop shared resources and processes, with managers setting permissions based on role responsibilities and information sensitivity.

Student organizations can create collaborative planning tools where officers have edit access and general members can view and use shared resources.

Personalization

Claude now can search your chats for deeper context. It can answer questions such as “have we ever talked about [some topic],” or “what was I working on before break,” or “what are the next steps in this project?” Claude will recognize two different kinds of boundaries: Chats outside of projects, and chats within specific projects. You can turn this feature off altogether.

Getting started

These features are available now in Claude with your Northeastern account. Look for the “artifacts” option in the Claude sidebar to begin creating interactive tools, and use the share button in any project to set up collaborative permissions.
