Banner Self-Service at Northeastern University has been upgraded to version 9, bringing a more modern interface and streamlined experience to students, faculty, and advisors across the university community. The interface cutover was completed on January 21..
The modernized Banner platform positions Northeastern for continued innovation in student services while making everyday tasks easier and more intuitive. Banner now has a more reliable, secure, and user-friendly system for managing academic information.
The refreshed look of Banner works better on modern devices and fits better with how people expect technology to work today.
What’s new for students?
The most noticeable change is the updated look and feel. Banner features a cleaner, more intuitive interface that makes navigating between different functions much easier. Student profiles now consolidate biographical and academic information—including class schedules—in a clearer way without requiring clicks through multiple screens.
Accessing Banner on a mobile device? You’ll especially appreciate the responsive design. Whether checking grades on a phone or registering for classes on a tablet, the experience adapts seamlessly to any screen size. No more pinching and zooming to read tiny text or trying to tap tiny buttons.
Performance improvements mean faster page loads and smoother interactions, even during busy registration periods when thousands of students are accessing the system at once.
To facilitate the upgrade, most direct Banner Self-Service links have changed. Old bookmarks to course registration, view grades, access transcripts, manage personal information, or apply for graduation might not work correctly, so accessing Banner through The Student Hub ensures proper routing every time.
What’s new for faculty and advisors?
Faculty members and academic advisors will find Banner particularly helpful for supporting students more effectively. The new centralized landing page serves as a unified hub for faculty services and advisor services, with improved navigation to all necessary tools.
One of the biggest improvements is the enhanced student profile view, which provides streamlined access to comprehensive information. Registration notices, holds, academic history, and other critical details are organized more logically, making it much easier to understand a student’s situation at a glance.
Faculty will continue to use Banner for familiar daily tasks—managing class rosters, submitting grades, and accessing student information—but with layouts that are easier to read and better organized.
