As Northeastern continues to lead in digital innovation, accessibility remains a cornerstone of its mission to create inclusive and effective digital environments. The recently completed Digital Accessibility Maturity Model (DAMM) survey offers valuable insights into the university’s current standing in this vital area.

Strong engagement in a culture of accessibility

The DAMM survey was conducted by Level Access, a third-party vendor of the university, and feedback was evaluated from 76 faculty and staff across 40 departments and 17 functional areas. Northeastern outperformed peer institutions in nearly all measured dimensions, particularly excelling in the category of “Culture.” his high score reflects a growing recognition across the university of the importance of accessibility as a shared value and organizational priority.

A roadmap for the future

These findings align with Northeastern’s commitment to accessibility, especially as Web Accessibility Content Guidelines (WCAG) become formalized into law. By addressing identified gaps in training, governance, and communication, the university can ensure digital accessibility is integrated into all aspects of its operations to support students, faculty, and staff.

The survey results serve as both a milestone and a call to action. With a clear roadmap, Northeastern is well-positioned to lead in digital accessibility and foster a campus-wide culture where inclusivity and innovation go hand in hand.
