Tech Update: December 7, 2021

New Features Released in the Student Hub

The services and links on the student myNortheastern portal will soon be retired. As you transition to the Student Hub for all your links and resources, under the Resources tab, check out all of the other features that the Hub offers to help you navigate your day-to-day university life. With the latest release on November 4, the Hub is more personalized and user-friendly than ever. A new notification feature and a way for students to share their voices more broadly through blog content are just two of the new features released, informed by the input of more than 300 students.

Papercut Personal Device Print Options: Double Sided, Color/BW, and More

Did you know? Papercut supports printing directly from personal devices including Macs, PCs, and more! Choose to print double-sided, just specific pages of a document, and more. A web-based portal makes it easy.

Countdown to Workday

Workday is launching as Northeastern’s Human Resources system of record on December 19. If you’re a student employed through Northeastern, watch for news about Workday training and systems transitions from the Office of Student Employment, Graduate Assistantships & Fellowships.

To find out more about student worker training for Workday and what the system will mean for you, visit Northeastern’s Workday website. To get a quick preview of Workday and news of what’s in store this month, watch One Platform Together.

Service, Application and System Health: Get the Status

Wondering whether that technology issue you’re having is actively being fixed? Or when that scheduled network outage, or other university system downtime, will be over?  Visit Northeastern’s IT Statuspage where you can find updates on frequently used university systems and sites. Statuspage reveals active IT issues and scheduled maintenances with details. There’s also a quick, color-coded glance of all system’s statuses and a chronological list of past incidents and issues. Subscribe to have updates sent to you via email or text message.

Find a Place to Study and Collaborate with Others

Spaces at Northeastern powered by Robin makes it easy to find a place on campus to connect with other students on a project or to find a quiet nook to study alone. Designed to work with Office 365, the new app will locate and schedule workplaces in Boston, Portland, and Seattle, expanding to other locations soon. Do note that different spaces may have different policies. For example, some can only be booked up to 24 hours in advance.

Upgrade from Office 2016 to Microsoft 365

As of November 1, 2021, Microsoft ended support for Office 2016. This move means that Microsoft will no longer provide security updates to the software and that users will no longer be able to connect to Office 365 services. If you’re running Office 2016, please take a moment to upgrade to Microsoft 365.
