Duo is the two-factor authentication (2FA) service used by all Northeastern students, faculty, and staff. By using Duo 2FA to authenticate the most frequently used website or service logins, you’re taking an important step toward protecting your online identity and personal information, as well as Northeastern’s research, intellectual property, and institutional data. 

If you know you’re logging into a service or website, it’s safe to approve the associated Duo authentication requests at that time.  

When Not to Approve  

If you didn’t initiate the authentication request from Duo, don’t approve the authentication.

  • Duo App Reporting 
    Open the Duo app and Deny the request. When you select It seems fraudulent as the reason for denying the authentication request, a case will immediately be logged for further investigation with the Office of Information Security and the Northeastern IT Service Desk. When prompted, select ‘It seems fraudulent’ as the reason for denying the authentication request.
  • Text and Phone Call Reporting  
    If you’ve received a fraudulent authentication attempt via a phone call or texted passcodes that you didn’t authorize, contact the Northeastern IT Service Desk by calling 617.373.HELP [4357] to open an investigation by the Office of Information Security.
